Day One Wrap-Up

Well, the show floor closes in a few minutes so Vince and I are back at the media center trying to get everything from today posted before the media center closes down for the day. I’ve got a good 300 pictures or so to post, so hopefully all of those will be processed by the time management kicks us out. Of course, since the media center is jam packed we’re in the corner on the slow and overloaded wireless, so this could be tricky.

Waiting for spore

Unfortunately I’ve been unable to get the wirelss on the show floor to work on the PDA so I’m writing this while waiting to see spore and won’t be posting it until later. So far today has been amazing.

The PS3 is great to play, and I really enjoed a flight combat game for it. Being able to control the plane by moving the controller around worked amazingly well.

Upcoming PS3, XBox 360, and PC games all look incredible, especially Gears of War and Prey. That’s all I can get myself to type into this PDA, and we should be seeing spore soon, so I’m out…

Yeah, we’re finally there

Besides the rough plane landing, LA has been pretty cool so far. The flight arrived at 11:20pm PDT, and we found our way to our lodging by 1:15. After a lovely 5 hour nap, we strolled down the 1.5 mile walk to the convention center and picked up our media badge holders. Now it’s time to play the waiting game until the floors open up at nine…

A Different Perspective

As Rodzilla mentioned in an earlier post, I will be serving as another representative for Seriously! at E3 this year. Like my friend, I hope to explore and describe as many interesting facets of the expo that I can in just three days. Unlike my friend, my posts may appear to be generalized, abstract, and vague at times. Why? Well, I haven’t exactly stayed on top of current technical gaming news. In fact, the latest development I remember reading about was the implementation of the FX chip in SNES’s Star Fox back when I still subscribed to Nintendo Power.

Despite this, I’m still psyched to be attending E3 this year. I enjoy gaming as much as any other kid attending a toolish engineering school, and it’s going to be great to check out all the new stuff coming out this year. The playable PS3 and Wii games look extremely promising. Also, as a former Red Alert aficionado, I can’t wait to check out Command and Conquer 3. I even hear that Square Enix will be showing off Final Fantasy XIII. And if somehow I get bored with these and the other games I will be covering, I can always chill out with Adam West during his autograph sessions…awesome. I can’t think of a better way to spend three days.

Are we there yet?

The layover in Atlanta wasn’t too bad, though it was a bit weird being within 20 miles of where I grew up. This flight to LA is beginning to get a bit long…it’s a good thing the pilot said we’ll be taking a shortcut, whatever that means.
The whole time-travel thing due to the 3 hour time zone difference is a bit odd as well. This turbulence is making it rather difficult to type so I suppose I’ll try and get some sleep.

Heading to Los Angeles

3:03 PM. That’s close enough to on-time. A good 10 hours or so of travel time including a lay-over in Atlanta and then a few short hours of sleep and BAM, E3 bright and early in the morning.

Waldo at E3?

I’ve been dying to talk about this idea since I thought of it the other day, as personally I think it’s quite hilarious and rather interesting. I’ll be dressing up as Waldo (from “Where’s Waldo?” of course) for the entire first day of the E3 Expo. Not only that, but we’re having a contest for people to find Waldo in pictures from E3. It should be a good time, and I hope some other gaming sites pick up on it and support us, as it could really be fun for people to take part in.

I’m really curious as to what people’s reactions will be on the show floor and in meetings, though…

Let the Madness Begin

In a little under seven hours I’ll be waking up, finishing up as much work as possible, and then we’re heading to the airport for Los Angeles. Instead of describing how busy the rest of this week will be, here’s a glimpse at my calendar for E3.

Welcome!

When I covered last year’s expo, I was usually only able to update once or twice a day, as I had to drop everything I was doing and go to the media center to upload content, or wait until I was done for the day. When looking for a better solution this year, I had the goal of posting regular, albeit brief, updates directly from the show floor, and stumbled across moblogging: mobile blogging.

Myself and another representative of Seriously! will be covering the entire Expo, from Wednesday morning’s 8 AM press briefing through the closing of the floor on Friday night. Regular updates will be posted here, including brief but to-the-point impressions of tons of new games, and of course, the PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii (I still can’t type that without wanting to make a joke). Full-fledged updates will still be posted to Seriously!, so check both sites regularly to make sure you don’t miss a thing from this year’s Expo!
